South Korea Will Not Send Troops Into Iran War, President Says

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said South Korea will not deploy troops or military equipment in the Iran war. According to Sina Finance, he made the remarks at a press conference at the presidential office in Seoul after reports said Seoul was considering sending troops to the Strait of Hormuz. Lee said South Korea would not get involved in or interfere with the war, and would take only the minimum necessary steps to protect its merchant ships and oil transport routes. He repeated three times that South Korea would not take troop deployment actions that could evolve into military intervention. He also said South Korea had so far upheld the principle of not getting involved in or interfering with the war, and would continue to do so. Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump complained in an interview that the support the United States receives from other countries is "pathetically little" and cited Asian ally South Korea as an example.
