Qantas to Retire All 10 Airbus A380s Starting in 2028, Four Years Earlier Than Planned

Qantas Group said it will gradually retire all 10 of its Airbus A380 aircraft starting in 2028, about four years earlier than previously planned, according to Jiemian News. The airline had originally planned to begin retiring the superjumbos in 2032 and replace them with more fuel-efficient Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Qantas said the decision was made because the delivery schedule for next-generation aircraft is "reassuring." It expects to save about A$300 million in net cash flow in fiscal years 2028 to 2031. The Airbus A380 entered service in 2007 and stopped production in 2021 after years of criticism over high fuel consumption, heavy maintenance costs and weak demand.
