Mature-Node Chip Supply Tightness May Last Until 2028, Industry Says

IC design and semiconductor industry participants broadly expect the current tight supply of mature-node chips to last longer. According to ChainCatcher, many in the industry believe companies will need to compete for capacity at least through 2028, and price increases may become the norm. Some also said the supply-demand balance for mature-node chips may not return to stability even by 2030. IC design professionals noted that the overall end-market is not especially strong, but cloud AI-related demand remains very large and continues to expand.
