A report from research firm Exponential View said revenue from artificial intelligence has reached a critical point, suggesting that technology companies' spending of hundreds of billions of dollars in the field may be economically sustainable. According to Odaily, the report said global AI sales revenue from hyperscale cloud providers and emerging cloud providers reached $25 billion in the second quarter, topping for a second straight quarter the estimated $21 billion in depreciation costs tied to data center and chip investments. The report said the milestone shows AI companies' revenue is beginning to cover capital expenditure costs, although profit margins remain thin.
