Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Opens to $124.5 Million Domestically

According to CNBC, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" grossed an estimated $124.5 million in its opening weekend domestically and $139.6 million internationally, for a global total of $264.1 million. IMAX said it generated nearly $30 million in estimated U.S. ticket sales, or about 24% of the domestic haul, while its international contribution was around $22 million, or 15% of the debut. The film has not yet opened in China, Japan and South Korea. Data from EntTelligence showed about 7.5 million domestic tickets were sold, with premium large-format screenings accounting for 45% of sales at an average price of $19 and 70mm showings making up 5% of tickets at nearly $22.50 each. IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said 42 IMAX locations held screenings between midnight and 3 a.m. over the weekend, and the company is extending the film's run into a fifth week. Sony and Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set for release on July 31.
