Hong Kong has ranked first in Asia for green and sustainable bond issuance for eight consecutive years since 2018, Financial Secretary Christopher Hui said at Ming Pao’s “ESG Awards 2026” ceremony.
According to Ming Pao, total green and sustainable debt issued in Hong Kong exceeded $76 billion last year, while green and sustainable bonds arranged and issued in Hong Kong totaled about $38 billion, accounting for 40% of the regional market.
Hui also said China’s Ministry of Finance last month issued renminbi-denominated green sovereign bonds in Hong Kong for the first time.
