Starknet Says Post-Quantum Signature Migration Would Not Require a Hard Fork

Starknet says account abstraction allows accounts to change their signature verification logic in place, enabling a switch to post-quantum signatures without a hard fork. According to Odaily, the network said in a post on X that this change would not alter an account’s address, balance, or history and would not require protocol modifications. Starknet noted that, as an Ethereum Layer 2, its settlement, data publication, and bridge functions still rely on Ethereum and elliptic-curve cryptography. Researching an independent Layer 1 could allow Starknet to set its own cryptographic approach and migration schedule. The independent Layer 1 remains a research direction; STRK remains the native token, and Starknet has no current plan to issue a new token. Any decision to migrate to Layer 1 would require a binding governance vote.
