A British man named Chris has recovered 61 bitcoin after a 12-year legal dispute following the shutdown of the UK crypto exchange Intersango in 2014. According to ChainCatcher, Chris bought the bitcoin in 2011 and left the assets in exchange custody instead of moving them to a self-custody wallet.
Intersango was formerly known as Britcoin and was one of the first exchanges in the UK to offer bitcoin trading against the pound. CEL Solicitors’ director of financial litigation Ryan Sweetnam helped recover the assets, and the firm spent four months submitting the required documents to a U.S. court before the return was completed through negotiation.
Chris said he now opens the wallet holding his bitcoin about 20 times a day.
