China's SAFE Reports August FX Settlement and Sales of 17,090 Billion Yuan

China's State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said banks settled 17,090 billion yuan of foreign exchange and sold 13,800 billion yuan in August 2026, according to Jiemian News. For January-August 2026, banks cumulatively settled 143,111 billion yuan and sold 119,848 billion yuan. In dollar terms, banks settled $251.8 billion and sold $203.3 billion in August, while January-August totals were $2.0834 trillion and $1.7455 trillion, respectively. Banks also handled 52,718 billion yuan of foreign-related receipts and 48,486 billion yuan of payments on behalf of clients in August, with January-August totals of 435,846 billion yuan and 410,480 billion yuan. In dollar terms, those figures were $776.8 billion and $714.4 billion in August, and $6.348 trillion and $5.9786 trillion for January-August.
