Espresso Foundation Completes Mainnet Upgrade on September 9, Cutting Finality to Under 1 Second

Espresso Foundation said its mainnet completed an upgrade on September 9, reducing transaction finality to less than 1 second. According to Foresight News, the upgrade reworked consensus, networking, block building, and data availability. The consensus process was streamlined with network transmission reduced to one round, while block building was moved from an external service to the leader node, which begins optimistic construction after receiving the previous proposal. The upgrade also introduced changes to the erasure coding scheme and cryptographic library, significantly lowering encoding latency. It further reduced hardware and bandwidth requirements for validator nodes and improved the network's overall resilience.
