McConnell Returns to Capitol After 3-Month Absence Following Fall

According to CNBC, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., returned to the Capitol on Monday after a three-month absence following a fall that left him hospitalized and out of public view for 92 days. McConnell said he had assured Senate Majority Leader John Thune that he would do his best to be present for tough votes when Republicans need him, and said in a statement that he would cast his first Senate vote since taking a bad fall back in June. He said he was looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing his colleagues. The 84-year-old former Senate Republican leader had not been seen publicly since he was hospitalized June 14. He had not cast a Senate vote since June 11 and missed dozens of votes during his absence. McConnell said his recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, that lingering effects of childhood polio have complicated it, and that he is still not quite back to 100% and will continue physical therapy on doctors' advice. His return restores another available vote for Republicans, who hold a 53-47 Senate majority.
