The article said August manufacturing sentiment improved marginally, with the PMI rising to 49.8%, and the production and new orders indexes returning to expansion territory, suggesting signs of stabilization in the economic recovery. However, fixed-asset investment fell 6.7% year on year in the January-July period, with infrastructure and manufacturing investment both under pressure. The article said the economy remains clearly split, with high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing PMIs at 52.9% and 51.4%, respectively, both in expansion, while the consumer goods PMI was 49.0%, still below the boom-bust line.
