Solana Plans to Raise Transaction Byte Limit to 4,096 This Wednesday

Solana plans to raise the maximum byte size per transaction from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes this Wednesday, allowing complex actions such as cryptographic proofs, multisignature payments, and some confidential transfers to be completed in a single transaction. According to Foresight News, the new format is already running on testnet, while the existing transaction format will remain available and wallets and applications will not be required to upgrade. The change is intended to narrow the gap with Ethereum, which does not have a strict transaction byte limit. Solana’s transaction size has been capped at 1,232 bytes, and the upgrade is expected to have a larger impact on services that read on-chain data. Those services will need to update to recognize the new format, or they may face request failures or incorrect priority fee displays. The change is defined by SIMD-0296 and SIMD-0385 and is separate from a recent Solana governance vote on adjusting the pace of SOL issuance and burns.
