Vitalik Buterin Says Poseidon Hash Functions Have Delivered Practical Value for Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the Poseidon hash function family, developed over several years, has already delivered significant practical value on Ethereum and in other areas and will continue to do so in the coming years. According to Odaily, he said modern privacy protocols can quickly generate SNARK proofs on the client side, and Poseidon is one of the key reasons for that. Buterin also said general-purpose STARKs have now reached very high performance, with proof costs for nearly any batch computation reduced to the low hundreds. He added that these costs could fall further to the low tens or even lower, a development that has exceeded early-2020s expectations.
