Japan Faces Biggest Food And Beverage Price Wave Of The Year In September

Japan is set to see 4,923 food and beverage items rise in price in September, about three times the level a year earlier and the highest monthly total so far this year, according to ETNet. Teikoku Databank said the survey covered 195 major Japanese food companies. Seasonings accounted for the largest share of the increases at 1,959 items, followed by processed foods at 1,848 items, including frozen products. The company said tighter Middle East tensions have pushed up oil prices, while a weaker yen and higher logistics costs are also prompting food makers to pass on costs to consumers.
