Iran Warns Parallel Shipping Routes Without Coordination Cannot Ensure Safe Passage in Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, said decisions made with unclear arrangements, parallel routes, or without considering Iran’s position as a coastal state cannot guarantee safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Odaily, Gharibabadi wrote on social media on the 26th local time that any credible framework must be based on coordination with Iran and compliance with Article 5 of the Iran-U.S. memorandum of understanding. He added that otherwise, the established parallel routes would be suspended.
