G7 leaders meeting in Evian-les-Bains, France, issued a statement renewing calls for coordinated action against North Korea-linked cryptocurrency theft and broader cybercrime. According to ChainCatcher, United Nations security researchers have tied North Korea’s crypto theft activity to funding for the country’s weapons programs. The report cited recent incidents suspected of being connected to North Korean hackers, including a $285 million attack on Drift Protocol in April and a $36 million disruption involving Humanity Protocol in June. Chainalysis data cited in the report said North Korean hackers stole at least $2 billion in cryptocurrency in 2025, bringing the group’s historical total to at least $6.75 billion.
