Japan to Investigate AI Video Model Over Copyright Concerns

Japan's AI Strategy Minister, Kimiko Onoda, expressed concerns over potential copyright infringements and inappropriate imagery related to a Chinese AI video generation model during a press conference following a cabinet meeting on February 13. According to Jin10, Onoda announced the government's intention to investigate the situation further. The AI video generation model in question is Seedance 2.0, developed by ByteDance, which has been used to create multiple videos circulating on social media platforms. Onoda acknowledged awareness of the situation and emphasized that unauthorized use of copyrighted materials cannot be ignored. She also mentioned plans to communicate with ByteDance to address the issue. The use of generative AI for creating images or videos without permission from copyright holders has become a societal concern, extending beyond this particular service.
