Australia’s main law enforcement agency, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), has launched a new unit dedicated to fighting cryptocurrency-related crime, The Australian Financial Review reports. Stefan Jerga, the agency’s criminal asset forfeiture officer, claimed that the number of cryptocurrency-related crimes has risen significantly. So the AFP decided to form a dedicated group. Australian authorities investigated a major money laundering case in August, seizing millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies and other assets in Canberra. So far, the AFP has seized $35 million worth of ships, planes, art, and cryptocurrencies.
