South Dakota governor vetoes House bill that specifically excludes crypto assets from definition of 'currency'

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has vetoed House Bill 1193, which specifically excludes cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and other digital assets from the definition of "currency." Kristi Noem stated, “Using cryptocurrencies will become more difficult if they are explicitly excluded from currency. By unnecessarily restricting this freedom, HB 1193 will disadvantage South Dakota citizens in business.”
