According to ChainCatcher citing Blockaid, a state root calculation bug in Ethereum execution clients Reth and op-reth affects some EVM blockchains, including multiple OP Stack chains. Unpatched nodes may stall during synchronization or return incorrect state proofs via eth_getProof. The issue is a client correctness defect, not a known attack, and no funds have been reported lost.
Reth merged a fix on November 3. Patched versions include reth v2.10.0, op-reth v2.8.1, and Base node-reth v1.5.3. As a precaution, LayerZero paused off-chain infrastructure for some affected chains, delaying—but not losing—cross-chain messages. Some protocols also paused deposits or cross-chain routing. Blockaid advised node operators and RPC providers to upgrade promptly.
