Lido contributors have proposed updating the protocol’s MEV policy for Ethereum’s planned enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS), using both a permissionless market and a whitelist-based market. According to Foresight News, contributors to the Lido Node Operator Mechanism (NOM) working group submitted the proposal to the governance forum.
Under the permissionless track, Lido validators could accept bids from any builder that meets Ethereum protocol requirements, provided payment is guaranteed by the protocol. Builders and intermediaries offering additional payments beyond the protocol guarantee would need approval for Lido’s Allowed List, reviewed by the Curated Module Committee (CMC).
The proposal requires all Lido validators to continue accepting peer-to-peer bids and directs all rewards to the Lido EL Rewards Vault. Node operators would be flagged for investigation if they build their own blocks despite an external bid above the minimum, or select a bid below 90%–95% of the highest eligible bid detected by monitoring.
The policy would apply to all node operators. The proposal and transition plan are scheduled for a vote in November, but would take effect only after the Glamsterdam upgrade is completed on Ethereum mainnet.
