On Dec. 1, on-chain lottery protocol Megapot will shut down its official megapot.io and Telegram apps and shift its focus to Prizerail, an enterprise raffle platform independent of the protocol. According to ChainCatcher, Megapot said the protocol will remain permissionless and fully on-chain, and apps and tokens built on it can continue operating.
Ticket sales on Megapot’s website and Telegram mini app stopped on Oct. 29. Its liquidity-supporter program, registration and referral rewards, guaranteed bonuses, and points program have ended or been paused. Users can still claim earned prizes and currently withdraw balances without identity verification. After Dec. 1, on-chain lottery prizes and referral fees can be claimed through Basescan or third-party apps. Guaranteed bonuses, which are handled off-chain, must be claimed before that date; prizes issued as free tickets can be claimed in USDC. Users who signed in with email, X, or Telegram must withdraw their funds by Dec. 1, when those accounts will become unavailable. Users who connected wallets retain ownership of their tickets and prizes. Liquidity providers can continue providing liquidity or withdraw at any time, while the team will not launch new supporter programs. The data API is considered deprecated, is no longer maintained, and will be discontinued later.
Megapot said most apps use lottery tickets as incentives for deposits, trading, and referrals, which account for most activity on the protocol. It launched Prizerail to serve larger applications whose requirements include U.S. compliance, legal memoranda for payment providers, and separation from betting. Of 20 prospective customers following a presentation in Singapore, 19 chose Prizerail and one chose Megapot. The protocol has dozens of independent apps, has paid out more than $1 million in prizes, and saw ticket sales triple over the past three months. Its liquidity pool went a month without incentives for the first time.
