Trump DOJ Election Lawsuits and Monitors Loom Over 2026 Midterms

According to CNBC, the Trump administration’s campaign to challenge state election procedures was coming to a head as Election Day arrived Tuesday, with the Justice Department telling a federal judge it expected to send 900 people to polling places in all 50 states. The department separately said it would deploy approximately 1,000 election monitors and observers. The campaign has included lawsuits, letters to state election officials and an attempted U.S. Postal Service rule for mail-in ballots this year. On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected the DOJ’s request to block California from counting about 20,000 mail-in ballots. California Attorney General Rob Bonta said state officials had prepared for potential federal actions and would seek court relief if necessary.
