STOCKS | Anthropic and OpenAI Warnings Hit CoreWeave Shares

CoreWeave fell nearly 7% premarket after warning comments from Anthropic and OpenAI executives rattled AI stocks. According to Sina Finance, Bernstein analyst Madison Reizai said CoreWeave faces the highest risk among the companies it covers if AI industry development is constrained. Reizai said 25% of CoreWeave's existing U.S. active power capacity and about 74% of its contracted power capacity are in Tier 3 and Tier 4 markets. He added that most of the company's backlog consists of take-or-pay contracts, which are not expected to be threatened, but remote computing capacity that has already been contracted and not yet sold could face weaker demand if AI model training and development slow. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman both warned over the past two days about risks tied to the technology they are helping develop. Amodei wrote in a blog post on Saturday that AI capability progress should slow, while Altman posted on X early Monday that artificial intelligence development has two catastrophic paths that must be avoided. CoreWeave's balance sheet and business model would also face pressure if AI development slows. The company said its long-term debt was about $27 billion and cash holdings were $6.3 billion in its latest earnings report. Before the latest selloff, CoreWeave had regained favor on Wall Street. The company reported second-quarter sales up 112% year over year, adjusted operating profit more than doubled to $1.5 billion, and management raised its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $12.4 billion to $13.2 billion. The stock had risen about 25% before the recent pressure.
