TSMC Accelerates 1.4-Nanometer Fab Expansion at Central Taiwan Science Park

Taiwan's Central Taiwan Science Park Administration confirmed on the 9th that TSMC's second-phase expansion at the Central Taiwan Science Park is accelerating, with the first P1 fab expected to begin trial production in April next year and mass production in the second half of next year, ahead of the original 2028 schedule. According to ChainCatcher, TSMC has also applied to build two temporary offices at the site, which are expected to be completed in April next year and will initially house more than 5,400 operations and outsourced staff. Construction on the advanced-process plant began in October last year and includes four 1.4-nanometer fabs, with nearly 2,000 workers currently on site. P1 is undergoing floor slab and exterior wall work and is expected to complete construction early next year, while P2 has started foundation and plant construction and is scheduled for completion in October next year. P3 has already obtained a building permit, and P4 is still applying for one. The company plans to stagger the projects by six months, with P3 expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2028 and P4 in the fourth quarter of the same year. After P2 is completed in the second half of next year, another 1,000 operations staff will be added, bringing total employment at the four-fab second phase to an estimated 9,000 to 10,000 people.
