AMD said at Citi's 2026 Global TMT Conference on September 8, 2026, that AI-related opportunities could reach $2 trillion by 2030. According to ChainCatcher, the company expects its data center business to double in 2027 to about $70 billion in sales, with AI GPUs contributing about $40 billion and the rest coming from server CPUs.
AMD raised its server CPU market estimate for 2030 to $220 billion from a prior estimate of $60 billion. The company said it has secured $29 billion to $30 billion in purchase commitments and received the largest capacity allocation increase among all TSMC customers, though it still faces tight supply of wafers, HBM memory, advanced packaging, and substrates.
MI450 is scheduled to begin mass production shipments in the third quarter of 2026 and ramp further in the fourth quarter. AMD guided third-quarter gross margin at 56%, and said gross margin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and in 2027 is expected to decline slightly as MI450 ramps. Chief Financial Officer Jean Hu said the speed, scale, and rise of AI are unprecedented.
AMD said it has announced three major anchor customers: Meta, OpenAI, and Anthropic, each involving multi-gigawatt deployments and multi-generation partnerships. Helios is ramping at the rack level. The company also said it has completed its acquisition of Taalas and is working with Cerebras to integrate Helios systems with its wafer-scale engine technology. AMD expects server CPU revenue to rise more than 80% year over year in the second half of 2026 and more than 70% in 2027, while enterprise server revenue grew more than 70% in the second quarter of 2026.
