Ethereum risk and assurance tracking platform L2BEAT has changed its name to ETHBEAT. According to ChainCatcher, the team said its work has expanded beyond Layer 2, though it will continue monitoring Layer 2 systems as one of several areas of focus. ETHBEAT will assess whether systems built on Ethereum deliver Ethereum’s guarantees to users, including by reviewing deployed smart contracts and tracking ecosystem data. L2BEAT launched more than five years ago to document the fast-growing Ethereum Layer 2 landscape, initially tracking total value locked before shifting to total value secured and adding activity metrics. ETHBEAT plans to apply its transparency and review methods across more of the Ethereum ecosystem, covering privacy, upcoming liquid staking, cross-chain interoperability, tokens, zero-knowledge proofs, native rollups and changes to the base layer. The team also introduced the CROPS guide, which lists projects aligned with censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy and security. Its stated mission is to help users understand and reduce reliance on intermediaries, including what those parties can do and whether users can exit if other participants leave.
