Samsung Display plans to sharply increase OLED supply for Apple’s foldable phones and iPads next year, according to ZDNet Korea. According to ChainCatcher, the company’s target for foldable OLED panels rises from about 8 million units this year to 15 million next year, while OLED panels for iPads increase from about 2 million to 9 million units, bringing total planned supply from about 10 million units to about 24 million units.
Apple is Samsung Display’s key small- and mid-sized OLED customer. UBI Research expects total OLED demand for iPhones to reach about 264.7 million units this year, with Samsung Display supplying about 144 million units and targeting about 148 million units next year.
Apple launched its first foldable phone in the second half of this year, and Samsung Display plans to supply a 7.8-inch foldable OLED panel. iPad Pro models began using OLED in 2024, the mini line was added this year, and the Air line is expected to follow next year.
Industry sources cited in the report said foldable phone shipments could reach about 6 million units this year and 11 million next year if the price is around $2,500, while higher prices or supply chain issues could reduce shipments further. Samsung Display’s supply targets may change depending on market conditions.
