According to Nikkei Asia, Indonesia reopened its main Jakarta airport and four others after volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau forced closures at eight airports and disrupted more than 340,000 travelers. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said Soekarno-Hatta Airport resumed operations on Tuesday after wind blew ash away from the area, while another airport had reopened on Monday and two remained closed. Authorities still need to inspect the airworthiness of 178 planes that were at Soekarno-Hatta during the shutdown, and Chief Infrastructure Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said on Monday that 341,000 people were affected by delays, diversions or cancellations of 2,961 flights. The volcano erupted three times on Tuesday, most recently at 07:49 a.m., according to the country's volcano monitoring agency.
