SoftBank Group has finalized a 1 trillion yen retail bond offering with a coupon of 4.75%. According to Sina Finance, the 7-year bond was priced last Friday at the high end of the company's 4.3% to 4.9% issuance range announced last month.
According to company filing documents, the average coupon on yen-denominated corporate retail bonds issued in Japan this year is 2.3%. Japan's 10-year government bond yield has also risen above 3% for the first time in about 30 years.
Nomura Securities senior credit analyst Kazuma Ogino said the yield level and the 1 trillion yen issue size could attract new individual investors. He said individual investors who hold the bond to maturity are largely insulated from interim price swings and can collect the high coupon, calling it a positive for the retail bond market.
