Uganda's Youngest Monarch, King Oyo Of Tooro, Dies Aged 34

According to the BBC, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the traditional ruler of Tooro in western Uganda who was listed by Guinness World Records as the world's youngest reigning monarch, has died aged 34. His prime minister said the king died on Thursday, while the kingdom did not disclose the cause of death; a Ugandan government minister was quoted in local media as saying he had been critically ill and was receiving treatment in the US. Oyo became king in 1995 at the age of three after the death of his father, and was crowned in 2010 when he turned 18. He ruled over more than two million people as the 13th monarch of a kingdom founded in the early 19th century. Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki called the death an immeasurable loss and said the continuity of the crown was assured, adding that a prince would be formally named as heir later in line with Tooro traditions. The Buganda Kingdom said it mourned with Tooro and described Oyo as a valuable figure to Uganda.
