Foresight News posted on X (formerly Twitter). A profile of 31-year-old Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan described the platform as infrastructure for exchanges rather than an exchange itself. The writer traveled to Washington, D.C., to interview Yan, who is based in Singapore and was visiting to support the Hyperliquid Policy Center. The conversation took place at the Riggs Hotel, with Yan’s security personnel nearby.
Yan said developers building applications on Hyperliquid must create their own risk controls and checks. He compared the platform’s role to that of the internet and said he devotes most of his time to work and coding. The profile described him as a programmer behind a platform valued at around $1 billion.
Launched in 2023, Hyperliquid began as a niche offshore platform focused on perpetual contracts, which trade continuously and have no expiration date. It has since expanded into a trading market offering proxy contracts tied to assets including stocks and gold. The platform generated $713 million in revenue over the past 12 months. Although it is not open to U.S. users, its growth has drawn attention from major industry players, including CME Group, and from the White House.
U.S. President Donald Trump, a supporter of the crypto industry, earned more than $1.4 billion through his own crypto projects last year. He has said regulators are studying a regulatory framework for perpetual contracts. The independent Hyperliquid Policy Center submits filings to U.S. regulators explaining the platform’s value.
