According to CoinDesk, U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero said that lawyers, accountants and other financial professionals should have stepped in before fatal mistakes occurred within encryption companies such as FTX. She called for a complete separation of client funds from the firm's own assets, saying it should be part of any future congressional legislation, along with better controls over conflicts of interest with company insiders and affiliates, strong cybersecurity requirements and widespread application Bank Secrecy Act to prevent money laundering. She also favored the creation of an independent industry self-regulatory organization (SRO) to oversee any spot market for digital commodities, and suggested that SROs operate outside of exchanges.
