According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government is calling on other countries to join a new international coalition to assist ships in safely transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The State Department, in an internal cable sent to embassies on Tuesday, outlined the initiative, dubbed "Maritime Freedom Construct," urging U.S. diplomats to push foreign governments to sign relevant agreements. The cable stated that the U.S.-led coalition would share information, coordinate diplomacy, and enforce sanctions. The coalition's operations would be conducted jointly by the State Department and Central Command, with the former acting as a coordinating center for diplomatic affairs and the latter providing real-time maritime situational awareness for commercial shipping and coordinating information sharing among participating military branches. When asked about the proposal, a senior administration official confirmed that the idea is one of many diplomatic and policy resources available to President Trump. (Jin Shi)
