Aave officials stated regarding the bad debts arising from the rsETH theft that there are two possible scenarios depending on how rsETH is handled. If the stolen losses are deducted from all circulating rsETH, the estimated bad debt is $123.7 million, concentrated on the Ethereum mainnet in absolute terms, but most severely affected on Mantle. If the value of rsETH on the mainnet is preserved, and the losses are entirely recorded in the Layer 2 mapped version of rsETH, the estimated bad debt is $230.1 million, all located on Layer 2. Mantle will face a 71.45% WETH shortfall, and Arbitrum will face a 26.67% shortfall; the Ethereum mainnet will be unaffected. Aave added that the final outcome depends on decisions beyond Aave's control, primarily the rsETH accounting method and the LRTOracle's exchange rate update method.
