MultiversX said it confirmed an attacker attempted to exploit an atomicity issue at the mainnet virtual machine layer, causing invalid on-chain state changes. According to ChainCatcher, the network has been paused to prevent further impact.
The engineering team has prepared a fix and is testing it in a shadow fork environment. If testing succeeds, the team will coordinate with validators, exchanges, and infrastructure partners to deploy the fix to mainnet.
The team is also evaluating a targeted recovery plan designed to preserve finalized transaction history and legitimate user balances while only addressing invalid changes tied to the incident. Users were told to take no action and wait for notice that normal operations have resumed. The project also advised users not to submit or rebroadcast transactions, and not to deposit or withdraw EGLD or ESDT through exchanges or cross-chain bridges.
