UK Lawmakers Urge Energy Department to Drop 'Net Zero' From Its Name

According to Sina Finance, the UK Parliament's Energy Security and Net Zero Committee on Thursday recommended that the government remove "net zero" from the name of the Energy Security and Net Zero Department and reduce its use in routine communications and public statements. The department said it had no plans to change its name and called the discussion an unnecessary distraction from the reality of climate change and the urgent need to shift to clean power. The committee, chaired by Labour MP Bill Esterson, said the term had become a distraction and urged ministers to make climate messaging less technocratic and more focused on broader social benefits.
