Hong Kong Market Panel Recommends Further Study Of Stock Market-Maker Support

Industry voices have recently suggested introducing a market-maker system for Hong Kong stocks as one way to improve liquidity in mid-cap shares, according to Ming Pao. At present, listed warrants, callable bull/bear contracts, leveraged and inverse products, and ETFs in Hong Kong all have designated market makers providing quotes. The Financial Services Development Council said in reports published last year and this year that there is reason to further study a market-maker support mechanism for individual stocks, but a spokesperson said it was not recommending a market-maker system for ordinary Hong Kong dollar-denominated shares.
