Plans to give mayors in England the power to introduce a levy on tourists are expected to be outlined on Thursday, according to BBC. Under the proposals, overnight stays would be charged as a percentage of accommodation costs, with local leaders deciding how the revenue is reinvested. The government says the approach would protect budget holidays, and there would be no upper limit, though ministers believe mayors are unlikely to make it too expensive. The Overnight Visitor Levy was outlined in the King's Speech in May, and the government will give more details after Housing Secretary Angela Rayner meets mayors on Thursday.
