Meta Launches Muse Personal AI Agent, Targets U.S. Adults First

Meta announced on September 8 local time that it has launched Muse, a personal AI agent that can carry out tasks on behalf of users. The tool runs on a dedicated cloud virtual computer and is powered by Meta's latest AI model, Muse Spark 1.3. It will first be opened to U.S. users aged 18 and above and can be accessed through iOS, Android, the Muse website and WhatsApp, with future support planned for Instagram, Facebook and Meta's AI glasses, according to Jiemian News. Meta said Muse can continue working in the background toward set goals even after users close the app. The company is offering a free version and paid plans priced at $20 and $100 per month, and ultimately plans to make Muse available to the billions of users on its social platforms. As of the end of the second quarter this year, Meta's social platforms had 3.6 billion daily active users. Meta's chief AI officer said the company had found no risk of Muse becoming a "runaway agent." Jiemian News also noted that Meta's free cash flow fell from $8.55 billion a year earlier to $784 million, the lowest level in nearly four years, as heavy AI investment weighs on the company.
