According to CNBC, the domestic box office generated $4.76 billion in ticket sales from May 1 through Sept. 7, setting a new summer record. Sony's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and Universal's "The Odyssey" contributed more than $1.5 billion, or over 30%, to the total, while the season also benefited from an extra week of ticket sales versus 2013. The summer ended nearly 10% above 2019 levels, and year-to-date box office is now 7.5%, or $595 million, below that pre-pandemic benchmark. Analysts said the full-year domestic box office could top $10 billion for the first time in seven years.
