Research Says $3,500 Bet Can Move Most Midterm Prediction Markets

According to CNBC, new research from the Anti-Corruption Data Collective found that a $3,500 bet — the maximum personal campaign donation — can move 97% of midterm-related prediction markets by five cents or more. The report said 806 of the 1,094 markets priced at five cents or less that it examined could be moved five cents for less than $100, while 94% would move 10 cents under a $1,000 bet and most would move 25 cents after bets of $25,000. The coalition also identified 353 instances on Polymarket during this election cycle in which one or two wallets moved a prediction market by five cents or more. In those cases, 211 stayed at the new price, 62 kept moving and 80 returned to their original level. The report cited specific moves in Texas Senate primary markets involving eventual Republican nominee and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, including bets of $1,760, $1,240, $23,953 and $38,830 that shifted contract prices on Polymarket and, in some cases, on Kalshi.
