Hyperliquid Testnet Adds Optional Address Whitelist for HIP-3 DEX

Hyperliquid’s testnet has introduced a new feature called stars for HIP-3 DEX, adding an optional transaction address whitelist that lets deployers restrict opening positions or adding to positions to approved addresses. According to ChainCatcher, the testnet whitelist is currently capped at 10,000 addresses, while unauthorized addresses can still deposit funds and place reduce-only orders to close or cut existing positions. Community members said the feature could expand HIP-3 DEX use cases, including tokenized stocks, real-world assets, institutional indexes, and other regulated products that could be limited to users who have completed KYC or meet access requirements. It could also let new markets first open to market makers, partners, or community members for testing, potentially reducing the risk of spam trading, wash trading, or manipulation at launch. The feature does not change Hyperliquid’s permissionless base layer, but adds an optional access-control layer that developers can enable or disable as needed. That could allow DAO-run markets, trading clubs, private funds, or partner-only venues to operate closed trading markets while retaining Hyperliquid’s matching engine and settlement layer. The feature remains on testnet, and the official use case has not yet been disclosed.
