HD Korea Shipbuilding Signs AI Platform Deal With Siemens Unit

According to Yonhap, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE) said Friday it signed an agreement with Siemens Digital Industries Software to adopt an artificial intelligence platform for shipbuilding. The next-generation marine platform is intended to create an autonomous manufacturing system that links ship design, production, supply chain management and maintenance, while allowing shipyards to push design changes and real-time production updates to the shop floor and across suppliers. HD KSOE President and CEO Kim Hyung-kwan said the company aims to build a future-ready shipyard by combining AI, digital twin and automation technologies, while Siemens President and CEO Tony Hemmelgarn said the system could help improve throughput, quality and workforce productivity. The signing took place in Washington on Thursday on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center, which was established to support the MASGA initiative. Under that program, Seoul has agreed to invest US$150 billion to help revive the U.S. shipbuilding industry as part of a broader $350 billion investment commitment to the United States.
