China Insurance Industry Body Holds Q2 Meeting on Life Insurance Rate Research

China's Insurance Association held its 2026 second-quarter meeting of the life insurance rate research expert advisory committee on July 20, where participants discussed the macroeconomy, government bond market trends, industry development, capital markets and AI applications, according to Jiemian News. The experts said China's economy maintained generally stable growth in the first half of 2026, with GDP up 4.7% year on year, and noted that business activity indexes for sectors including monetary and financial services and insurance were in a relatively high expansion range. They also said the life insurance industry has continued its reform and transition, including a push to align business practices with policy filings, while the committee put the current research benchmark for ordinary life insurance products' guaranteed interest rate at 1.94%.
