Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan said he recently read a speech by U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent and described it as an important document defining the United States’ economic role for the next century. According to Odaily, Hougan shared his comments in a post on X. Hougan said Bessent outlined a future U.S. economic strategy based on five principles, including a third principle stating that the United States will set the rules for the next-generation economy. In remarks about the digital economy, Bessent said digital assets, stablecoins, tokenization, and new payment systems will help shape the future of money, adding that the United States should not position itself as a bystander in building that future. Hougan said the comments indicate the U.S. government’s level of attention to advancing the crypto industry and reflect that digital assets are being incorporated as an important component of the future financial system and economic competition landscape.
