Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino warned Big Tech’s artificial intelligence spending boom may rest on weak economics, citing four “structural mismatches” in AI infrastructure. In a July 4 post on X, according to BeInCrypto, he pointed to gaps in token pricing, profitability timelines, cost-of-capital maturity and rising competition from open-source AI, alongside fast hardware obsolescence of 3 to 5 years. The comments come as Alphabet, Amazon, Meta and Microsoft are expected to spend up to $720 billion this year, while JPMorgan projects global AI-related spending could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030.
