JPMorgan Maintains Overweight Rating on Tencent as WeChat AI Agent Beta Begins

JPMorgan maintained its “overweight” rating on Tencent (00700.HK), setting a target price of HK$690. According to Jin10, JPMorgan said uncertainty around Tencent’s WeChat AI Agent centers on whether it can truly be integrated into the WeChat platform, the extent of its transaction permissions, and whether Tencent can build a supply system that AI Agents can access without relying on existing e-commerce platforms to open up inventory. The bank said that since Tencent began beta testing the WeChat AI Agent in June, its confidence in the company’s value-creation framework has increased significantly. It added that the Agent service is now sufficiently visible to clearly distinguish what already exists from what still needs to be advanced. JPMorgan said this shifts the WeChat AI Agent from an AI option with no clear timetable into a phased rollout project with observable milestones. The bank said the initial impact of the WeChat AI Agent launch on Tencent’s share price is more likely to come from a reduction in the risk premium and an increase in valuation multiples, rather than short-term growth in earnings per share.
