New nonfarm payroll additions in June returned to a level close to the December average of 36,000. According to Jin10, employment in social assistance and health care continued to rise this month, while the leisure and hospitality sector saw a sharp reversal after a prior surge.
Leisure and hospitality employment fell by 61,000, reflecting weaker-than-usual seasonal hiring in the sector. The decline nearly erased the 70,000 increase recorded in May, and the report said the drop could not be explained by the World Cup.
After the sharp June decline, leisure and hospitality employment returned to normal.
